Try this next time you grill

So I’ve been experimenting with adding flavor to my grilled steaks for years. I’ve tried rubs, spices, marinades, etc. I’ve been getting in to adding wood chips lately and enjoy the mesquite chips you soak and add to the coals. My buddy recently gave me a big chunk of dried applewood that I chipped up and added to some ribs that I smoked and I liked the flavor. I’m rambling. Anyway, I recently had a brainstorm that produced really good results. I used to chew tobacco years ago wondered what flavor it would impart if added to coals during the grilling process. I experimented with Skoal Long Cut Wintergreen but it burned up rather quickly and I didn’t notice any added flavor. That’s when I my “A HA” moment and picked up a tin of the Skoal pouches. They are just moist enough and don’t burn up immediately. I used the Berry Blend from Skoal and I am REALLY stoked with the results. I added them directly to the coals about halfway through total grill time and then added 3 to each steak after grilling and wrapped them in tin foil for about 6 minutes. Really good. Just a hint of the flavor throughout the meat. My wife is a vegetarian but my kids loved them. My 6 yr old daughter damn near ate one of the pouches—she thought it was steak-- so take them off the plate before serving. I’m gonna try the Citrus Blend with pork next—thinking of rolling them up inside with some onion and jerk seasoning—I’ll report back.
