BS. I'm happy that Rob is happy and that his family is happy. As I clearly said, different strokes. But he essentially said that women want to be taken care of. I have found that to not universally be the case. Some do. Others don't.
But forget what I say - you should ask a woman. And I did. And the answer was given above. And the description of her being happy isn't meant to demean Rob's wife or anyone else's. It is to point out that different women have different needs and desires. To generalize and say that they all want "x" and here's how to get it is just wrong. I know stay-at-home moms and have tons of respect for them. I know how hard it is. But I also know men who don't respect women with careers and think less of them because they don't "care about family."
I don't think he is freakish. But I don't agree with his viewpoint. You viewing it as condescension might say more about your perception than my intent. There are men in the world that do not like strong women who dare to move beyond where they are "allowed". I know plenty of each (cranky men and strong women) - and they don't get along. I personally don't think that Rob is that way, but his attitudes could be construed as such. And I've heard enough of the "uppity woman" and "that beotch" comments from some other guys to realize that they just can't deal with it.
Not to say there aren't pita ball busters out there...on both sides.
