When I did a tour as an Air Boss, I also qualified as Officer of the Deck. I had my own watch section and was in the watch rotation underway.
While driving the ship sucked, some of my best memories of the Nav were near the end of the 0400 to 0800 watch when the mess cranks would bring up freshly baked bread and freshly brewed coffee.
