I have outlook where I work and use it from home. I dont use outlook on my pc itself We have a web based version so we can connect from anywhere. I have set it up before the way you have and when it synchronized it duplicated the users machine in their office. I'm not sure why yours would be collecting old mails that have been deleted..unless maybe its connecting to a remote mailbox and it hasnt been accessed before so it still has all the old stuff in it.
I dont know of any way to cancel it from the sync. In the past I've had to let them update completely.. Maybe someone knows some tricks that I dont and can give us both some tips...
