My former employer was in Fairfax, Virginia. Every time I went back east (about every other month for four years), I wound up going to DC or to Pentagon City.
I flew Steve and the kids out for Fourth of July. The fourth, in our nation's capital is an extroardinary event. We had toured museums, etc., for two days prior, gone to the Blue Ridge Mountains, etc., during the week. On the 4th, we went to Arlington Cemetary, then to Capital Mall.
It was important to me that our children understood exactly what our freedom cost...
I am definately not a city girl. Buildings, monuments, etc., really do nothing for me. But the capital mall, particularly when it is lit at night, is an exceptional site. The Vietnam memorial (wall) will carve the hardest hearts into putty.
