Okay got the regulator out without removing the window frame, that was a lot of fun. The manuals I read said you had to remove the window frame but I really did not want to disturb it in this car.
If you remove the motor/gearbox while the regulator is in the windows you can then weasel out the regulator without removing the window frame. Not easy but it can be done.
So check out the picture below, does the loose part hold the spring in the area indicated, almost seems silly as the spring is being held fine right now, maybe with a little less tension.
Or is this a left over part from a previous failed regulator?
