Hopefully you don't find that it gets old kinda fast. I did.
I found that out here in California, the auction prices weren't really much different than a "low retail" price, at least on BMWs and Mercedes. The prices on those cars at Manheim have been insane for many months now.
I did it as a hobby for a year, it actually worked out financially pretty well (would never quit the real job, though), but I found that after a while, I was really dreading going to the auctions.
I would always be very disciplined and only buy very nice cars that did not get bid up too high (I would rather walk away with no cars than overpay for one), but even then, the margins were very tight, at least out here in California. I guess that's why so many independent dealerships have gone out of biz here, including some that have been around for 25 years.
It was something as a mongo car enthusiast I always wanted to do, was fun while it lasted, was a great experience, made a few bucks (but put a ton of hours in, most of which was fun, tho), drove a lot of cool cars, never lost money on any of them (although only a very small profit on a couple), never had an unhappy customer, and am glad I did it - - but don't and won't miss it one bit!
