The term "rare" I think is both mis-used and misunderstood in it's use for the car market as a whole.
In terms of the 930 they're not rare, desirable to some but certainly not rare. 78 & 79 930, basically the same car.
As far as a Euro/ROW 930 of that vintage, there is not a whole lot of difference between it and the US cars of the same era other than the EPA and DOT requirements.
DOT included: glass, safety belt buzzers, door beams, compression shocks to mount bumpers, head & parking lights and lenses.
EPA included: smog pump and related bits.. Remove this stuff & it's just like ROW.
As far as your rebuild, what's your mileage.. what's your issue/s? You could always set that motor aside and buy a good used 930 motor for $10k or less, plug it in and ride! Rebuild the original motor as time and fund$ allow.
