Most departments won't consider anyone without some form of bachelor's degree. A friend of mine just went through the process.

Your wife must be one of the few that cares? What is she doing over the summer? Most teachers don't set foot in a school unless they're teaching summer school for extra money. As for the peanuts, it's hard for an experienced teacher around here to make under $40k, and most make more. Get an advanced degree and it's $50k+.
My wife's aunt and uncle are both teachers in a small central KS town (i.e. dirt cheap). They make over $100k per year combined and always complain about their low pay. Must be a teacher thing.
