Borrow a DME computer and troubleshoot it, but agree with Thomas that you would get screwed by paying that much for a new computer.
Have seen them recently for sale used for $350 or so... there was a guy selling the complete DME setup for a reasonable price recently. Believe it was on Ebay but its not there now.
