I sold 928s new at the dealership and drove them all brand new, including the manual trans 928 S4. (Pretty fast). They were great cars like most all Porsches but always had a very limited appeal. They were not pure sports cars, (99% were slush boxes in the U.S.), kind of a neither fish nor fowl situation. The heavy weight never bothered their target demographic, they were cruisers.
The new Camaro I don't see as some kind of refined GT car. It's more of a parts bin car, a styling exercise. Making a car go fast is the easiest thing on earth for a manufacturer, no one should ever be impressed by that. Hyundai could make an 800hp car if they wanted. It's all in the details and execution, the overall package.
