Could they have done it quicker? Sure, one blow to the head with the baton and it's done in 3 seconds. Or while he's squirming around, a quick hard yank to the arm while your knee is in his back, and he's cuffed. Of course, you'd probably end up breaking his arm, dislocating his shoulder or otherwise seriously injuring him. A chokehold to unconsciousness with the baton would have worked, too.

If their goal was to quickly cuff him, without regard to injuring him, they could have easily done it any number of ways. With the physical manhandling, they were for the most part being pretty gentle with him. They finally used the taser as a non-lethal way to get him to comply, without having to crack his skull. Seemed to work ok.

As it was, they took a little more time, but neither he, the cops or anyone else got hurt, and he was taken away.

Except that tazers are often lethal- and hey hit this guy over and over.
