Sorry to hear it... I hope he has a full recovery.
And it's not just helmets... FULL gear, every time, is my rule. (Even though it's been a few years).
I just shake my head when I see morons on superbikes wearing nothing but t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops.
The family business of a friend of mine in high school was making artificial limbs.
80% or more of their business was from young women who were injured from riding on the back of motorcycles without proper riding gear, and their boyfriend dumping the bike.
