My brother hit a van that pulled out in front of him, split a nice shiney new helmet, and his pelvis, shoulder etc. Spent a month in ICU; I swear they were trying to kill my him, and would have proven successful save for the efforts of my wife, mother and sister.

I am convinced that you have a much better chance of successful in recovering from any serious trip to the hospital if you have family there to diminish the likelihood of "mistakes". Does not hurt one bit if they are an anesthesiologist or nurse with CCU, ICU and emergency experience.
