You're right about it being a powerful solvent--that's why it works so well. If you are careful, you should not have any problems as it does tend to evaporate quickly. Keep it off of painted surfaces and some plastics too, which can be hard to do with a spray in the engine compartment. If you use it just for your carbs, you should be fine but remember, the solvent will remove the lubrication in the linkages so don't forget to keep them well lubed, including the ball sockets on the rods.
