It could hurt if the cuts are too deep for the metal thickness in the crown of the piston.
The aluminum will be thinner under the cuts if the pistons were designed without valve pockets origonally and heat transfer away from there to the piston skirts will be slower because of it.
Anotherwords have it done by someone who has done it before on air cooled Porsche motors.

Smooth off any sharp edges of machined valve pockets with 1200 grit sandpaper so the edges don't become hot spots that can cause detonation.
