Supposedly a well-maintained 190E can be a pretty reliable car. The build quality is impressive, even though it was the MB base model. If you can find one, the 190E 2.3-16V is a smoking deal. You can find nice drivers for around $6k, they're basically a 4-door E30 M3 (for $15k less). Plus, unlike most MB products, you can find one with a stick.
rnln, the other question would be, how did the car run before she parked it two years ago? If it ran well then but runs like crap now, I think the suggestions here are pointing you down the right track. You should also consider changing the other fluids as well, before you have additional issues. Sitting is doesn't do a car any favors.
