Not sure how far it's advanced, but one thing shoot-em "games" don't have are interactive multiple DISTRACTIONS:
-animals/vegitation
-water/wind
-kids stealing
-citizens arguing/lying/acting as potential threat
-especially local vs. teritorial engangments. Soldiers get bogged down by a few sprayer, and become sniper-bait and/or disengaged from the main thrust during an offesive through tunnel-vision.
Realistic dynamic color-coded maps, and foreign language signs help bring quick familiarity to the situation.
