Aww, come on. That's not really the case. They were better built than a comparable Ferrari of that era. Yes, Ferruccio also had plants that made tractors (nice ones, too) and heating equipment, among other ventures, but when he built his car factory it was state of the art for those days. Better than Ferrari, better than Porsche, and yes, I saw it with my own two eyes, not just pictures in a book.

He had things like a gearbox dyno, to break in the gearboxes prior to installing them in a car (not to mention, reverse gear was synchronized, too...) If anything, his cars were rushed to market too fast and they could have been better with a little more development.

Kit cars are vastly inferior, if you actually have driven one.
