Spain or specifically Madrid and Barcelona, their largest cities, aren't racially or ethnically diverse, and Spain's citizens are mostly Roman Catholic. Some suggest it is this homogeneous makeup that doesn't recognize the sensibilities of different ethnic groups. Stereotypes and racial intolerance are often the result of this insularity from other cultures.
My daughter is in Spain for the spring semester. She hasn't mentioned any overt problems with the role of women in that country. However, I'll debrief her upon her return in a few weeks.
