What part of Calif? (note my sig for SoCal resources).
As I understand it, vendors won't sell to a Calif resident or address, except for items in the "Calif" catalog, and that only lists the vehicle specific cats, not the neat new high flow type cats.
My impression is also that "things" still slip through smog inspections about as well or easily as ever, but the muffler shops are not taking any chances.
YMMV, roll the dice and see what happens, etc etc.
