Alarick, I'm not sure why you think the first pic is the 'later' pic. Of course, only HardDrive knows.
But, I'm guessing in the first pic, the destroyed wheel is still on the car, and still hanging on by one or two spokes, or the hub is simply resting in the destroyed hoop of the wheel. See how the hub is not centered in the hoop? In the second pic, the wrecker dragged the SUV a bit and the wheel finally gave way.
Who knows.
Whatever the case is, there's 5 truck wheels visible in the combo of pics. So the spare is "in the game", so to speak.
