Porsche Crest brake light problem

Hi everyone im new to the forum i am the third owner of a 1982 black porsche 928 with around 95,000 miles. car runs like a top but has a brake light issue that has just occurred.
stop lamp switch on the dash is lit up... tested fuses which were ok, bulbs ok. tested bulb sockets which were receiving no power. passenger side assembly looked burnt so i pulled the rear bumper and replaced it only to find brake lights still dont work. turn signals, tail lights, and reverse lights all work fine brake lights are out. i will start with two questions:
Where is the brake switch located and how do i access it to test it?
If the switch proves to be o.k would the problem consist of a wiring problem or bad ground?
