Re: belt removal, a couple tips as I just went through this:

Some mounting points use several washers -- helps to keep them in order.

To remove the rear side panel:
1. Remove the top trim piece between the side panel and the window
2. Lift the panel an inch or two to unhook the metal tab that keeps the rear of the panel flush
3. At this point it will be secured only by the trim piece along the door frame -- no need to remove this, instead, rotate the side panel clockwise (looking from the inside of the car out) to slide it out.

To remove the seatbelt from the side panel you'll need to remove the plastic guide where the seatbelt enters the panel. On my car at least it had a gap on one side -- open it slightly and slip the seatbelt through.
