David--
NO DIVERSION. It is things like you wrote that makes this site more worthwhile. Otherwise it is just cars and parts and the story here is what separates this from being "just another newish Shelby" to being a special car. Great story. Sad, damn right... but what a neat story about your brother, his special wife, and a neat car... and that made it significant.
If I were selling it I think I would include a write up with this story. I would NOT include a link. Anyone who reads it might think "I'll wait till after July". BUT the story is neat, touching, and explains why it isn't something run hard and put away due to disinterest. You absolutely want to include the new car sticker info with that. Man, that is a terrible hit.... but, actually not much worse than most new GT2 owners, etc. take when they resell their "investments". Mainly, a wonderful story about how this came to be. Thanks for sharing it with us. Believe me, I am gonna forward it to my brother as a reminder.
Last comment.. I can't help but wonder if he still had the '57 if it wouldn't be worth about the same! Life gets silly sometimes.
Best
