Wow, everyone is so harsh on the X-type.

Forget for a second that it wears the Jaguar badge. It's a relatively simple car that shares components with a common Ford.

But it's still a decent looking all-wheel-drive with a manual transmission for about $5-6K. That's cheaper than a 70K mile four cylinder 2002 Subaru! They're fantastic buys.

What's not to like? The 2.5 was used in the Contour, Cougar, etc here in the US, and it's easy to 'upgrade' to the Taurus (et al) 3.0L Duratec 24V at 200ish horsepower. The Jaguar bits can be spendy but it's easy to find used parts cheaper.

They're not bad cars used. They just didn't fit what a proper Jaguar should have been, when new.
