Small cc motorcycles....whaddya got?
Every once in a while i'll cruise ebay and craigslist looking for interesting small cc motorcycles. lots of neat japanese enduro type bikes among other things.
slowing life down a bit, simplifying...it's kinda nice to be behind the pace a bit.
currently have a '66 Honda Cub and a '54 BMW R25. Temporarily babysitting (selling) a '60s Cushman w/ a 2spd hand shifter.
I'll admit after getting the beemer the little honda has been sitting unused but it is a fun little bike. 3spd w/ no clutch makes it mindless to ride and the big wheels make handling very nice. suspension isn't much for a guy my size and it makes a heck of a ruckus getting up to it's 30mph top speed. Have ridden an 80's model of the cub (70cc i think?) and it is night and day better. very smooth and feels like a lot more power (relatively speaking).
The Cushman is neat to look at and sounds like a little harley but miserable to ride. the small, fat front wheel just sucks. lots of effort to keep it pointing straight. the hand shifter is pretty nifty and it is quite difficult to start.
The beemer is a real motorcycle and a friggin dream on a 40mph back road. very low and not terribly heavy w/ a sporty seating position. starts on the first kick (assuming the carb is tickled adequately and you're at the top of the compression stroke of course) and has just enough power that i'm comfortable on slower roads w/ cars.
So what else is out there?
