After watching the news report... two thoughts
1) the sergeant in the video being interviewed (who was not the officer who used the taser) came off as a TOTAL D-BAG. Congratulations sir.
2) After watching the dash cam video though.. it was a pretty dangerous area to be pulled over and to have the lady not complying and putting herself and the officer in danger because she wouldn't stand in an appropriate spot on the road, and then refusing to comply more and more... well.. you gotta do something. The problem here is her age- tasing a 72 year old woman seems really harsh. If it was a 38 year old male then I doubt there would be anyone objecting. The fact of the matter is she was not complying and potentially putting herself in a more dangerous situation.
I'm not 100% on this one but it doesn't seem like to bad of a call. I think if anything the officer could have been more calm and calmed her down which would have avoided the use of the taser, but I agree tasing her was better than using more physical force, which may have ended up with her running into oncoming traffic.
Interested in the PPOT wisdom on this one.
