actually , MS stated it won't change, they only look for bugs left in the thing as it's designed right now.
POP, there 's a need for a new version from time to time, if only to keep up with modern hardware possibilities, and new software technology...
64 bit xp exists, but it doesn't work well enough to be usefull in anything but specific situations.
all pc's now , are 64 bit, except for maybe the thin pc's running on Atom class cpu's
and at some point all applications will be 64 bit, hence at some point XP will effectively not work out anymore.
And that's fine, but MS made the capital error, of removing something that need not be removed...
