I guess its a movie that idealistic thinkers would like to picture themselves in, chucking society, living on their own means and such. Just didn't make for much of a movie. What have I missed?

you're not alone. my wife and i watched it a few months ago and kept saying to ourselves during the movie... "why are we watching this?" not much of a plot if you ask me.
