How do you figure what is a fair amount to pay someone for constructing a deck and pergola?
A good friend of my sister is in the construction business. I need a 16x12ft curved deck and 16x12 foot pergola built; he said he really needed the business and would beat anybody else's price no matter how many prices I got. I like the guy and he is the sole provider for a large family and he seems honest so I didn't bother to get any other estimates. Besides I have always had a hard time getting local contractors to return my calls, much less show up.
He says he can get me a great deal on all of the materials @ $1700.00. Total price of the job is $3500.00. He says him and 3 other guys can finish it in one day. Normally I say the faster the better but $1800.00 for a days labor seems kinda high even if it is divided by four people.
I know he has insurance and other costs but I am a cheap bastard and don't have a ton of money myself. (I try to DIY everything but it would take me months to do this project.
Does his estimate seem reasonable?
