I spent almost $1000 for supplies when I painted my 914/6 in 1991. I am currently painting a 914 race car that has fiberglass quarter panels (with the flares) just installed as well as fiberglass hood and truck lid and a fiberglass top panel attached as well as finished welding the full roll cage into the car. Car was completely stripped and I have over 30 days and still am not ready for paint.
New rubber, trim pieces, change color, paint trunk, engine compartment how much of the car is to be disassembled - these are all the questions that effect the cost of a quality paint job. Plus if you go with someone who knows the car you have a better chance of a great job. I have seen paint jobs been impressed then opened the drivers door to see the jams only to see they taped the striker plate in stead of removing. Go figure.
You will get what you pay for.
I am interested in your project as I always wanted to weld steel flares on my 914. Love the car, but now have a 964 CAB that I am going to weld the flares on to make a widebody. There are many of us that learn and get excited watching others do their projects. Inspiration is what keeps us going. Milt please share any pictures you have. Thanks for taking the time post. Jim
