My brother did it on his 84 Carrera.
Key is turned to unlock steering wheel and arm ignition while the push button is used to crank the starter.
He had issues with intermittent start even after replacing the ignition switch parts.
He used the spot where the alarm keyboard on the right side of the steering wheel and it looks like a factory installed unit.
I'll have to check with him about the wire connections.
