there used to be a huge beaver house relatively close to the end of the road on the right. A 2 minute walk on the path and you were right there. I like to hit that campsite just as the valley clears of snow and the mountains still have snow. The valley has the first of fresh buds on the greens and wildlife come down before tourists chase them way back into the mts. Sometimes you can spot a ram. I only caught a quick glance of one once and was unable to find him again after spending all am hiking up the west side.
The remodel a few years ago of the road turned the place into a tourist bus view.
It's one of the best views of the Rockies in the US and the campground draws a healthy dose of interesting people.
HP uses radar at beginning of road sometimes and will also sneak up on you when you make the turnoff to see if you slow down. I guess it's so popular you may be charged a tourist tax.
great color pic
