Soap Operas and Romance Novels are the same thing in two different medias. They are both porn for women. Whereas men most commonly fantasize about the sex act itself with little or no emotion involved. Women are turned on by the emotional aspects of sex to a far greater degree than men and often have little interest in the "mechanics" of the sex act.
Hence the overstated emotional aspects of both genres. These supply the emotional inputs that most women find lacking in their lives.
Astute men will pick up on the hint.
