Maybe try installing a filter in your house? Start with a small one at the kitchen tap?

The other alternative is a water cooler. I used to have one, they are nice.

I used to live in northern NJ where the tap water was very hard and tasted awful. If I lived there again, I'd filter or use bottled in water cooler form.
