Instrumentation/Electrical Question
Curious problem: Intermittently, but more and more frequently, my tach, oil pressure and temp guage go whacky all at the same time--needles bouncing everywhere. No other guage appears affected, and the tach, oil, temp gauges don't go haywire individually, only together. When I say "whacky" the tach will bounce all around, the temp will go up and down, and the oil pressure will bounce and guiver, but not usually go above "3" on the gauge. There is no fluttering or flickering with the instrument lights.
It happens in all situations I can think to try: headlamps on/off; fogs on/off; radio on/off; going fast/slow; bumpy vs smooth road, etc.
This is an '88 Targa. Recently had the motor rebuilt, and double-checked all wiring connections in the engine bay--all seems well. The DME harness is fully connected. I know that the instruments are on the same power souce and that at least the tach goes through the DME, but beyond this I don't have a clue.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Aaron
