Joe,
The keys visible on the screen might not appear very large, but the touchscreen sw actually senses where the middle of your finger is pressing down on the screen. You don't have to try and be careful and selective when pressing on the screen - you can type with the fattest part of your thumbs so long as you center them over the key locations. It just takes some getting used to.
