It is my opinion to stick with 2 3/4" rounds. You are not required to use 3" or 3 1/2". Try it once. If 2 3/4" is too much, trade gun on another weapon. I will not shoot .44Mag, it is just too much round for me.

I will assume you are living in single family unit. Heavy rounds can easily go through walls. Where are your family members/pets/neighbors during the confrontation. How far away are your neighbors? A good hydro-shock will stay within the perp. You want rounds that enter and stay inside the same target IMHO.

Long weapons in the house are easier for the perp to grab and harder for you to swing into play.

My advice on this board is more old school. I will always tell people to get a revolver if they are not WELL versed in firearms. I will state you do not have to prove you are a "man" by using the most powerful rounds available. In trained hands, a .22LR is just as deadly as a .50 or .44Mag.
