Agreed, location of tower can be a pain depending upon your location. You can get signal amps. Also, if you can get a phone unlocked, then often you can use it on another carrier or two. For instance, I think ATT/cingular and T-mobile have like networks so if you get a phone unlocked, it should work on either.
