Sounds all too familiar, Stijn. I grew up around, and love horses as well. Alas, my life took another direction, and they are simply not in the cards for me anymore.
They are a lot of work. They are why we now have cars; we can just put them away when we are done and move right into the next pressing need in our busy lives. Not so the horse; if one cannot live with it, be with it every day, and nurture it, it will never be "your" horse. It will "belong" to whoever does that for it.
I'm lucky in that my brother-in-law lives close enough to occasionally visit, and he keeps horses. There is always one that needs exercising. Granted, my riding sucks anymore - it's a bit more than riding a bike, where one can quit for 30 years and hop right back on. But I get around, and have fun. And help feed and water them when we are done...
