Stijn, it must be tough not doing something you love but I respect you greatly for choosing to do things the right (IMHO) way.
I hope someday you do acquire enough space to keep your own.
Right now, for us, we have deprioritized my wife's equine pursuits and have focused on raising our little one(s). So now I get to mow the grass a lot instead of picking up horse poop.
