Zeke is correct.............educate yourself with reading up on the different models and what is within your budget and preference. Their is a ton of books/publications, etc., which would greatly help you here. "The Porsche 911 Buying Guide" is one example as well as "Excellence Magazine". If most Porsche nuts are like me, I have a shelf full of Porsche History Books, Technical Journals, Buying and Restoration Guides, sales brochures and years of Panorama (PCA Club Magazine) and Excellence Magazines.
No one can decide for you as everyone has their favorites. Within your price range you have the option of an older restored model or like you stated the popular 993, which to me is a sound choice. In fact you would have lots of money left over with your budget. With that you can buy years of quality maintenance and keep your fingernails clean or put one heck of a garage full of nice tools together!!
