Yes you will need to drill into the hatch - likely 2 holes on each side of the hatch..
Do you have a stock foam wing with 2 studs each side ? or an aftermarket fiberglass - many of these have threaded inserts requiring bolts from the car side (this is in fact a lower profile attachment wrt the hatch so may be an easier fit on an older style hatch... Strosek & Jacquemond wings come like this...
Unfortunately don't have a picture handy - can someone with an S4 take a photo...?
Most of the cheaper fiberglass wings have some fitment issues with the stock holes on an S4 - at least you will be able to put the holes wherever you need them.
