Recently, a mint condition '98 993 (8K miles), which is becoming a classic (last oil/air cooled) model,
sold for 55K on eBay.
That car's performance far exceeds the '72 you are considering, and unless you are a collector,
you may want to look at other options.
And there are many.
My pick would be the 993.
But, it is your checkbook, go with your best choice.
