Sometimes I think the general public views all of us sports car guys as pr!cks, and doesn't care about the particulars.

In my experience your stereotype is mostly wrong. The italian big gold chain segement is only a small % of those who buy Corvettes.
They had to buy something when the IROC Z28 was discontinued....
