The bus crank is the same.
If you offset-grind the crank, you will probably have to get it re-treated to the correct hardness. An experienced VW machine shop will have some idea of how that's done. Maybe Rimco?

The 2.0 cranks aren't that expensive. Even the 74mm cranks are not that bad.
