Need help with rear wheel bearings
I could not find a shop anywhere to do my rear wheel bearings for me. The Porsche dealer has a 3 month wait. WTF?!?!?
So I got a shop to break my axle nuts for me. The job was very easy and everything came apart without a single problem.
THEN...
The bearing came out in pieces as I expected. Now I have the outer race stuck inside the arm and it is not budging. I tried to jack it out with a 1/2" threaded rod and I broke the rod. I tired the slide hammer, it did not move.
There is not much of the outer race visible from the back side of the arm. Maybe 1mm all the way around. But there is a fairly hefty lip around the inside. This lip was the business end of the slide hammer and jack.
The only real option for heat is a propane torch. Not much heat. I can't believe that it will not move at all. My next attempt will be to use a dremal and a burr and try to cut it in half to see if that will help relieve some of the tightness and come out with the slide hammer.
Any other ideas besides a torch and a red hot trailing arm??? I will do anything before I have to remove the trailing arm itself.
Thanks!
