Thinking about selling a 72 E targa
I am somewhat disappointed in myself for arriving at this point. I have a 72 E targa, which I have owned since 1985. Since I live in Maine, the car was only driven summers since I bought it, but it has been stored for the last 10+/- years. Late last fall, I decided to get it going again, and worked on it intermittently through the winter. It was originally a sporto, and I always wanted a 5 speed, so I bought and installed a 915 from a 72. I fixed everything else that I came across while working on it. Now I am ready to drive it and it will not start. During the summer I do not have time to work on it. I live in a very rural area, and will have to load it onto a trailer and tow it for about 3-4 hours just to get to an independent shop. So I am thinking about selling it as is, and buying a daily driver type 911. What is this car worth? The details:
72E Targa, mileage 77k, roof is functional, but weathered, headliner is falling down. Paint is Imron silver metallic, originally silver, with a few rust bubbles along the trailing edge of the doors. One small rust hole through the drivers floor pan. Carpets are aftermarket, have worn originals. Engine has never been apart to my knowledge. I had to do a lot of cleaning to remove rodent nest debris from the top of the engine, so I replaced all the gaskets and installed a new timing belt. Have the sportomatic transmission and all parts for it saved on a pallet. I would be grateful for any comments on its value, or perhaps maybe some encouragement to keep trying! Thanks
