Ice cubes are much cheaper but tend to get a bit messy.
I was lucky with my car. A/C didn't work when I bought it so I had the freon recharged. 5 yrs later it's still cold (I was very lucky). Good luck and make a sacrifice to the god of car repair. If he is pleased, your bill will be low.
